Chewy’s Big Adventures (Powered by Tiny Legs and a BuddyRider®)

If you've biked around St. Petersburg, Florida and spotted a tiny brown dog riding up front like he owns the place… that was Chewy. He's part adventure buddy, part people‑watching professional, and part local celebrity.
Chewy's life didn't start with breezy bike rides. Over 11 years ago, he was found on the streets of Texas, injured and alone. The rescuer suspected he'd been hit by a car, and he arrived as a medical foster needing reconstructive leg surgery. Over the years he collected surgeries the way other dogs collect tennis balls — two hernia repairs, chest surgery, and more. But Chewy? He just kept bouncing back.
A DNA test later confirmed he's 50% poodle, 50% chihuahua, and 100% "little brown dog." Now around 13 or 14, he's lived a life of adventure: hiking Colorado mountains, exploring Pacific Northwest islands, paddleboarding in Florida, and traveling full‑time like a tiny, furry nomad.
Then two years ago, everything changed. Chewy suddenly became paralyzed from the waist down. The diagnosis: IVDD — a ruptured disc compressing his spinal cord.
Emergency surgery saved him, but his neurologist gave one very firm rule:
no upright carriers which would compress Chewy's spine. No dangling. No being hugged or held like a baby. No "let's pretend he's a furry toddler" in a baby snuggie.
Enter the BuddyRider®, Chewy's new chariot! The moment he settled into it, he looked like he'd found his rightful throne. The natural seated position keeps his spine safe, he can see everything, and he leans forward with this tiny, determined posture like he's helping steer the whole operation. It's his favorite front‑row seat to the world.
At this stage in his life, experiences matter so much to us, and the BuddyRider® has helped us continue including him in our adventures safely. And people notice. Everywhere he goes, strangers stop to smile, wave, and ask where his bike seat is from. Chewy accepts the attention graciously, as any seasoned yet humble celebrity would.
"Chewy really is a little treasure," says owner Sarah, "and we're so grateful to have found a way for him to keep enjoying the outdoors." And thanks to the right support system, he's still out there exploring — one joyfilled, heart‑melting ride at a time.
